1st. Installed XP on IDE drive, 2nd. installed a Sata drive, installed W7 on that drive, want to remove the IDE drive, is it as simple as disconnecting the XP drive and do a startup repair, or is there going to be an issue with the XP drive being the Active drive, will startup repair make the Sata drive the Active drive?

I have seen answers when they reside on the same hard drive, but not on separate hard drives.

TIA to all who answer.

Doing a repair will fix the problem. It's mainly going to fix your MBR which allows you to dual boot and pick which OS.

Mark the Win7 HD active if it is not already, using XP Disk Managment.

Then power down, unplug XP drive, set Win7 HD first HD to boot in BIOS setup (or swap XP cable to Win7 HD), boot Win7 DVD Repair console or Repair CD, click through to Recovery Tools list to run Startup Repair up to 3 separate times with reboots to write the MBR to Win7.

Thanks Gregrocker, that did the trick.

Anyone figured out why you sometimes have to do the startup repair multiple times?
