Removing Extra Primary System Partition

Hi, I was trying to install Ubunstu and I thought I could do it without looking at any reference material. After a few tries, I tried putting the partition that I made for it active, but that didn't work and it made Windows not want to start up. I fixed that with my install disk and was able to mark the partition inactive with DiskPart and want to remove the partition and try it from Ubunstu's partition utility. I'm unable to select an option to delete the partion. It's marked with System, Primary Partition. I tried with DiskPart but it gave an error and said it was in use and I didn't want to override that without knowing what it would do. If I browse to the partition in explorer there's no files there.

You can try running diskpart at startup (outside of windows), or you can boot to the free version of Partition Wizard, which would likely be much easier.

How will this affect my system, with the partition I'm trying to delete marked with System?

Nevermind. I just formatted it and deleted it. However, there's this random 101 MB unallocated partition that I didn't create and the option to extend the primary part. to that isn't available

Can't say for sure without seeing your Disk Management layout, but that's likely the system partition Windows 7 sometimes creates.
