Solved Removing Items from Notification Area List?

OK guys, this is all very strange.
I've tried reinstalling pstrip several times today and trying out various methods of getting rid of the tray entry.
The only method that works for me is the following:
1) run CC with the 'tray notifications cache' ticked
2) run task manager
3) go to 'processes' tab, end explorer process
4) restart explorer from 'new task'.
Then the tray icons are reset to default, and the pstrip icon is gone.
I don't have to logoff or restart for this to work. The other methods just don't work for me for some reason.

Solved it for me too

Thanks imacken. Your post here worked perfectly for me too. I had a application called Comparartor Fast. It placed a comparatorfast.exe in the notification. It did not do what I was looking for so uninstalled. But this program left itself in the notification area.

Your post got rid of it perfectly without personally touching the registry. I have also used CCleaner for a while and it is a very good application. Just needed to get the sequence right which you have clearly stated above.

GOT IT FIXED! :D

I couldn't for the life of me get this to work. I was doing the registry edit (or the CCleaner methed), and then closing/reopening explorer and then logoff and on. Wouldn't work. The last time I opened regedt, closed explorer, did the registry deletes, closed regedit, restarted explorer, logged off and on and VOILA! All better now. Thanks.

The CCleaner method worked for me: I got rid of two (and I wonder why two) old entries of Auslogics BoostSpeed. Thanks, guys!
