I recently reformatted and forgot to remove permission from a group of files that I had on my data drive. Tried changing them, tried taking ownership etc. They were lost to me. Then I found a solution:
If you take those files and create a .rar with them (MAKE SURE THAT IN OPTIONS YOU DON'T HAVE THE "KEEP FILE SECURITY" CHECKBOX CHECKED) and when it zips them up all security is removed. Then extract them and voila! files with security removed. Just don't put them in the same folder.
