Renamed a folder, now Windows can't find it?

Hi for long reasons I won't bore you with I had to rename a game folder. Now when I try to install a patch for the game it can't find it. The patch file doesn't ask me for the game directory, it just checks the Windows [registry?] or wherever it looks for the game details. Is there a way of telling Windows where the game has gone so it will patch correctly? Thanks!

Rename the folder back, or re-install all the games. There is a reg entry but if you change that there is the possibility that some may work and some not.

Do you have a backup to restore from?

Do you have a win 7 dvd to do a restore from?

DO you have the mfr reset disks?

In that case you probably need to edit the path in the registry directly.
Not that I'm very comfortable to give that advice because the registry is the one place where you can easily mess up a complete installation. So either get someone who knows what he's doing or at least triple check everything.
At first I would create a System Restore point
If you remember the old path that'll be easy: (I'll give you an example for RISEN)
then open regedit press CTRL-F and search for the path i.e C:\Program Files\Deep Silver\Risen
You'll probably find several entries like Path, Uninstall_CMD etc.
You have to change those paths to reflect the new location ie D:\Games\Deep Silver\Risen
now keep searching by pressing F3 until no more entries are found.
That should do the trick. Please just be careful not to change anything you don't understand...in that case rather ask again until you're 100% sure you understood this right.

You are absolutely correct except I believe he said he renamed not moved the folder, and hence every file in it. He does have to change the reg to reflect the change but there are at least 5 hives he is going to need to make changes in. Your warning is right on.

Sorry, you're right zigzag... the rename part slipped right by me...in this case just rename it back to what it was before until the patch completed.

Thanks both of you. The regedit method looks like it would work but as I think Zigzag hints at it can take a while. The game had multiple installations with different mods, hence it was too complicated working out what to change. I managed to uninstall and reinstall the vanilla version without affecting the other mods, then use that as a base for the patch and future mods! (Medieval 2 Total War) Thanks for the help
