Solved Renaming Drives

I just had to reinstall Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.

I have two hard drives and two burners.

When I click on burners to rename, there is NO option to rename. I have never seen this before.

I have two hard drives and each is partitioned into 3 partitions.
The main drive (with OS) gives the option to rename but does NOT actually rename the drive.
The secondary hard drive does NOT even give the option to rename.

I have done this for years and have never had this come up. Does anyone have any ideas???

I don't know about burners, never seen them being renamed.

Restart to see if names stick, have heard before that they may default after a restart.

How I rename partitions.

Tick on Start/Computer
Right tick on drive/partition. and select rename. Must be done with admin account. Type in the new name. Then I reboot and see if the name stays as changed. It always has.
I know of now way of renaming a burner. I don't know why.

I name my partitions by the operating system on them. I use hot swaps. When I plug in a hot swap ssd because of the operating system name I can tell one from the other no matter what partition letter Windows gives them. When I hot swap a ssd for back ups it's name is back up no matter what letter Windows makes the ssd back up.

When I use 3rd party programs like for backups, no matter what the program list the drive or partition as the name lets me know what it is so I don't make a mistake.

Windows uses "0" as the first drive and many 3rd party programs use "1" as the first drive.
Naming things help me understand what is what.

The problem with renaming an ODD/Optical Disc Drive is there is no way to store information in it like there is with HDD or SSD. Could be the brand name and/or model seen in Windows Explorer or My Computer is part of the firmware on the drive.

Everything really looks weird. When I go to Start --> Computer, it just don't look right from what I have seen in the past.

As much as I don't want to I guess I am going to install Windows one more time.

What do you mean it doesn`t look right ?

Are you talking about Aero ?

Did you install the graphics driver ?

I have reinstalled Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit.
Now I can rename both the burners and all the partitions.

The only strange thing it did was before I installed windows I formatted C drive twice. After it was installed the partitions had the same thing I had named then on the previous install. At least for now I am happy with the way it is.
