I was at least 6 hours into a Windows 7 Repair INstall and I got the above message. I am confused, since I have like 573 GB free space on my C drive. :( Does anyone know what might have happened? I am using a Thumb drive to do the repair install.

Hello cimhawaii, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Windows will need around 9GB + what is currently being used of free space to be able to do a repair install.

How much space is currently being allocated (ex: page file and restore points) and used on the C: drive, and what is the size of the C: drive?

Hope this helps some for now, :)
Shawn

Brink,

Thank you for responding. I have around 570 GB of free space on the HDD. But after reading your message, I think what you are asking is how much space was allocated for system restore? I had previously allocated 3% of the HDD which was about 21 GB, I have changed it to 10% or about 75 GB which leaves about 65 GB of free space,. Will this resolve the problem?

Is this the original HP preinstalled Win7, which has the worst load in the industry of corrupting bloatware and duplicate utilties that have better versions built into Win7? If so I would strongly consider getting the superior Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 without the smothering crapware.

If you need to rescue your files out of the corrupted install there is a step given for that in the tutorial.

Cimhawaii,

I would recommend what Greg posted as well.

Well, Windows & came pre-installed on my HP. It worked okay for the first 2 months, fast start-up and no hang-ups or freezes, but then all of a sudden it started taking maybe 2 or 3 minutes to start-up and had constant not responding messages. So at that time I decided to do a system recovery. After the system recovery and re-installing my programs, the computer responded like a new computer. Until I ran Comodo System Cleaner on the registry and the problems returned. I guess it was a bad idea to run the registry cleaner? Anyway, back to my problem, when I tried to run the repair install, it failed as I mentioned. As much as possible I do not want to have to reinstall all of my software, since I have about maybe 50 programs I will have to re-install, and for some of them, I no longer have either the disk, or the activation keys. My computer also has Bio-metric feature (finger print scan) instead of password option which I like a lot, and do not want to lose. So what do you suggest now?

If you'd read Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 you'd see that the installer is provided in Step 1.

Have you tried to System Restore
to a point before you ran the Comodo cleaner? If you'll stick with only the tools and methods in the tutorial then you'll get and keep a perfect install for as long as you do.

But before you enjoy that you need to get rid of the HP preinstall which as I said is the worst possible install of Win7 one can have, with the worst load of corrupting bloatware in the industry. Until you are able to do the reinstall you can Clean Up Factory Bloatware.

If problems still persist there are also these Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7
