Repair install failed

I just spent a couple of hours doing a repair install under the guidance of this sites instructions and it went all the way to the end and then I got the prompt that the installation failed and I should run the upgrade advisor to see if my computer was compatible with the version of windows 7 I was trying to install. Now let me clarify. I am running windows 7 HP x64 and the .iso that I used was one of the reccomended Dell Sp1 discs that your site gave me a link to. My copy of windows 7 came installed or should I say pre installed from Future Shop and when I looked it up on Belarc advisor it had OEM next to the key. Are these still able to complete repair installs because I can't figure out why it wouldn't complete the repair. I am running the upgrade advisor now just to see what it says. Don't know why because I have Win 7 installed so it should be good to go right?

There are problems with Repair installs sometimes in trying to sort out corrupt settings to reimport after reinstalling the OS. These are best remedied by getting the vastly superior Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. If you use the tools and methods suggested you'll get and keep a perfect install, which you can then image so you never have to reinstall again.

Something also told the Repair utility that you have compatilibity failures which are sorted best by the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor . What does it report?

First off, when I ran the upgrade advisor it went on and on and on so I just got fed up and backed up all the files and folders, (I already had an Acronis disk Image backup but there was something wrong that I needed a repair or clean install), and decided to do a clean install with the disks I made when I first got my machine. Funny though, because I didn't know until I went into eRecovery that Acer offers a repair install that backs everything up and gives you your system back, kind of like the repair install listed in seven forum. Yes, I took a chance trying that before I went ahead with the clean install and it totally bombed and kept booting to "Services are starting". It just kkept hanging there and rebooting with an error. So much for repair installs. Anyway I just got done with the clean install with my Acer recovery discs and I'm in the middle of loading it back up. Thanks for your thoughts. No more repair installs for me. Straight to recovery from now on.

The disks you make when you first get the PC are Factory Recovery disks to restore to factory condition with all of the bloatware, not a clean reinstall at all, or even close.

These disks best serve as backup to running recovery from the HD as you mentioned and is demonstrated in this video: Acer Support - Answers, E-Mail, Chat - How do I restore my computer using the eRecovery Management program?

Neither of these come close to the superiority of a Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 for which we even provide you with the lastest installer disk with SP1, and the steps to get it perfect.

Nor are they a Repair Install which only reinstalls the OS while keeping all programs, files and settings in place, and which can sometimes sort issues in a factory preinstall although it is an enormous challenge given the corruption and crap that comes with it.

Thanks so much for the help and knowledge in getting this sorted. I need to watch my terminology sometimes and thik before I type something. I must have sounded pretty dumb when I judged the Acer recovery discs as a clean reinstall. Those would obviously be done with a Win 7 disc with or w/o sp1. Duh! Oh well live and learn on my part. My machine is running nice and smooth with all the bloatware gone. Once again GR thanx for the help.
I take it the picture on the board is you. I use to kneeride in So Cal when I lived there at the cliffs in Huntington and Newport when it wasn't crowded. A few other spots too. Even tried the Wedge once and almost drowned. Lol! Loved that place. Lived in Anaheim for 22 years. What a gas!
