I recently recovered my laptop - Acer aspire 5740 (oem) to the factory installed state..... I had malware - fake sytem restore and couldnt remove it

Everything was fine and I ran a windows update - wich downloaded 127 updates, I shut down and tried to install and nothing I do will get my pc to boot

It tries to load, then restarts to windows fialed to start due to recent hardware or software change ......

Launch sytem repair
Start windows normally ....

After launching windows repair I get to a blue screen ( NOT BSOD) with a light comming from the top - normally this is the back drop for the windows repair poption....however I only get the back drop no other icon etc comes up I get the below screen but background only ...

I even loaded a boot/ repair dvd of another pc with 64 bit windows 7 but can only get to the same stage..

Anyone have any idea how to get past this..

Also If I re install windows 7 - it came pre loaded on laptop - no disks were supplied - how do I validate it???

Sorry I am a total newb ...please help ....

Did you download sp1 first & install?

   Information
We always assume you have made your Recovery Disks using the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Media Creator app the first day you had your new PC.
& made the Startup Repair CD.

Did you make the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Disks?

It's a concern that the Repair CD will not load. I'd reset the BIOS to optimal defaults with HD set to boot first, then try booting the CD (same bit version?) using one-time BIOS Boot Menu key which is F12 on Acer.

Next try tapping F8 key at reboot to access Repair My Computer, run Startup Repair repeatedly even if it reports nothing to Repair.

If this fails I'd try runnning Factory Recovery again, then install SP1 from its standalone installer to avoid the Update logjam. Then install Windows Updates in small groups starting with the drivers quickly updated in optional Updates. If a group fouls out, you can System Restore to reinstall them one-by-one to isolate the problem Update.

If you can find or download an Official Win7 Installation DVD you can clean reinstall without the factory bloatware and useless factory utilities which have better versions built into Win7. Here are the steps to get a perfect reinstall based on thousands we've helped with here: Reinstalling Windows 7

Cheers all for the help - will try a clean install of windows 7 -
quick question - IT guys at my work have a copy of windows ultimate 7 - I work for a large mutlinational firm - I gather this would be pre configured for the firms set up?? .....I thought I would "borrow" the disk and return after install.

Thanks again

Ask if the disk is customized - what does it say on the label?

If any doubt it is standard retail installer for your version (or can be unlocked with ei.cfg tool in my Reinstalling link) then you can google Official Win7 ISO Download from My Digital Life to get a safe one.
