Repair Windows 7: Do I need my key number?

Hello

I have some functionality that stop working and I may need to repair Win 7. Problem, I don't find my installation key. Main problem when accessing to the control panel option, Win Explorer cease to function and the program is closed

- Do I need it to start the repair process?
- What i my option to regain my Microsoft key number?

- I had bought the key licence when I was in College as a rebate for students. I don't have access to this address anymore. The link provided to get it does not work anymore
