My acer laptop came with only the option of using the "Acer erecovery managment", no windows 7 recovery disk. My question is: If I obtain a windows 7 installation disk can I do a non destructive recovery?

Your options are to use the e-Reccovery disks with the bloatware or a clean-copy of your version of Win7.

Using a clean-copy of Win7 to reinstall and activate with your stickered OEM Product key will disable the Recovery Partition, so it's best to make your Recovery disks first and then delete all partitions on the HD during Custom install, using Drive tools.

You may need to manually delete any hidden EISA partition which will likewise be disabled and occupies prime lower HD address on most Acer's: Delete and Remove to Unlock EISA Hidden Recovery or Diagnostic Partition in Vista My Digital Life Do it last thing as it may make Win7 unbootable.

After install, any missing drivers or favorite apps (cam, etc) can be found on the Support Downloads webpage for your Acer model, Adobe (reader, flash) and Java (runtime, free Ofc suite) sites.

Ok, My problem was I wanted to repair Windows 7, but not have to reinstall all my programs etc. So far I have not found a way to do it.

So, to clarify, If I had an installation disk of my version, I might be able to boot into repair install. If it won't boot then I could make a system repair disk?

As the link explains, a Repair Install is run from the Win7 desktop. In Win7 as with Vista, it is an Upgrade over itself using the Win7 installer or its extracted files.

Startup Repair is used to start Win7 if it won't boot, and is run from the booted DVD repair console or Repair CD.

Ok, Thanks a lot.

When you open the Acer eRecovery Management there are two options for you:

-Create Default Factory Disk
-Create Drivers & Apps Disk

You should do the 2 options at first and it takes about 4 Dvd's.

In Bios settings you've have to enable the key F12 for the recovery disk to work (in case the Acer eRecovery Management won't work) F12 Key IS UNACTIVATED BY DEFAULT.

Again in Acer eRecovery Management when you click "restore tab"

There's 3 options offered to you

-Restore to factory (recommended)
-Restore keeping you're your files (make a backup of your files)
-Restore drivers & Apps

You should use the first option here.

If this doesn't works, refer to F12 key to enable repair with your new CDs.

(You can find in the "Acer Generic User Guide" step by step, how to use F12 on boot)
