Repetitive updates

I keep getting two Windows updates on practically a daily basis. They are KB2676562 and KB2679255. These two updates download and install successfully every time. I've tried hiding them, but they just come back a day or so later. Maybe there are no other updates available, but I haven't gotten any other updates other than Microsoft Security Essentials virus definitions since late July. Ideas?

Have you tried a anti-virus scan of your system?

Microsoft Security Essentials scans every night.

How often do update and install themselves? How long have you had your computer? Inserted any new hardware?

You may need to restart the Windows Update service or delete the temporary update files within the Software Distribution folder, by following:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Windows-Update-error-80070002

Try option two, if the first suggestion doesn't work.

Create a Backup and System Restore beforehand.

I've tried all of the suggestions but nothing has worked. Well maybe one of them did -- sort of. I no longer get those updates every day. In fact, I don't get anything. I get Windows Update error 80073712 every time I click "check for updates". By the same token, Security Essentials has no problem updating every day.

Have you tried a System Restore before the problem occurred?

Alternatively, try the System File Checker tool which is part of the Windows operating system package:

Start > "Search programs and features" search box type: cmd > Right-Click cmd > Run as Administrator > type the command: sfc /scannow

Windows will then scan and attempt to fix any errors, if the Windows Installation disc is required, then insert the disc and run the System File Checker.

My computer never came with any sort of installation disc or recovery disc. When I first started the computer for the first time, it suggested that I make some sort of disc, which I did, but I have no idea what is on it.

Sorry it took so long to get back here.

What do I do if I run the file checker and it wants the disc, which doesn't exist?

I burned it to a DVD. But like I said, I have no idea what the data was that was recorded, although I'm thinking it was nothing more than some sort of boot disc.

You can purchase a Windows 7 installation DVD, or borrow one from a friend, the System File Checker can make repairs from that DVD.
