replacing current ssd

already have my user profile on an HDD when I setup the first ssd wondering will I need to link the user profile again to the hdd after installing new ssd thanks

Not if you transfer Win7 via an image. SSD - Install and transfer the Operating System

If you reinstall you'll need to move via the Location tabs again.

However as you should have discovered by now, there are problems with moving the User profile or folders to another HD such as the HD then becomes part of the System and cannot be separated for imaging purposes, some download .exes will give unfixable permissioning errors, etc.

For these and other reasons if you reinstall we now suggest you instead simply rightclick on each user folder on the HD to add it to the related Library - Include a Folder - Windows 7 Forums - you'll need to create one for Downloads. Leave the empty C User folder in Library so you can easily see if anything writes there to drag it over to HD folder.

If you're only reimaging and have had no problems with this so far then you can leave it the same.

Thanks gregrocker for your information so if I do a complete install of Windows 7 on my new SSD I will have to setup my links again to the HDD which I have never had any problems with using the mklink setup I used first time around. Might it be a good idea to copy those files off that partition and just set it up fresh again with the mklink or use that move folder information your gave. Did you not also say that you moved your game program files off the SSD also? I'm installing a 240GB SSD so I think those should be fine on the SSD just bouncing information off of you.
