My Seagate HD recently failed a confidence test (that was new to me). I was able to recover from my external back-up and although the drive seems fine I want to replace it. I have a 1TB WD drive to add and it has a 64M cache vice the Seagate's 32M cache. Once I've installed it and cloned my current C: drive would it be better to make the new drive the boot drive? I'm thinking the larger cache may help speed things up a little. TIA

Hi and welcome to the forum id use the new drive, not because it has the larger buffer, but because it is new, so will have a longer life than a previously used harddrive.
The additional size of the buffer will not make any noticeable difference to your end experience, on the grand scheme of things 32mb is small in any terms of file transfer/general windows stuff.
If you want to give things a real kick up the preverbal i suggest an SSD as a boot drive, even of its a 64gb one just for windows, it will make the biggest world of difference, especially now as prices are tumbling.

Thank you. I'll probably wait a while longer before investing in an SSD. I went ahead an made the new drive the boot drive.

No matter how much we tell you about how fast a SSD is, you won't believe it until you see it. Programs open in one second. It is by far the best investment for your PC that you will make.
