Replacing HDD leads to systemprofile missing

Hi guys.
Have some stupid question and can't find answer, hope someone could help.
I have Win 7 Enterprise. OS is on SSD, C drive. All data, including 3 user profiles is on HDD, D drive.
While dealing with problem disk from other computer I have disconnected D: HDD from power and physically connected this new disk (power and data cables). It was corrupted so I couldn't even see it.
Then I reconnected D: HDD back.
But now I have the following error: "c:\windows\system32\config\systemprofile\desktop refers to a location that is unavailable" and I end up with temporary profile. Folder above indeed has no Desktop inside.
If I copy Desktop of Default User to the above folder (as some guys advise) I can get user desktop ok but when I open Explorer disk D is way too slow so it's virtually impossible to work.
Is there any way to recover user profiles except formatting D and reinstalling all stuff including user profiles stuff on it ?
Would appreciate links to same weird situation with solution also )
TIA,
Andy

Open Disk Manager and see if D: is assigned to the HDD. If it's not, change the drive letter to D: and reboot.

Thanks, Megahertz
HDD Drive letter was E, I've changed it to D in disk manger and rebooted.
It didn't help though.
