Repurposing old drive

Using Acronis WD edition I clowned my old drive to the new one. The process left me with the old C: as G: and the new one C: both active. I'd like to reformat the old drive and use it for storage but when I try to delete the old C with either Acronis tools or Windows diskmgmt.msc I get warnings. Acronis says if I proceed I may not be able to boot the machine, and diskmgmt says it's currently in use.:



I've read several threads here on the subject "multiple active partitions" but I'm still not clear on how to handle this. Advice appreciated.

Agreed - and welcome! If it's going to be for storage, try using diskpart and the clean command, then initialize it in Disk Management.

Thanks for both replies.

So, if it's OK to wipe it must be OK to use the Acronis tools and just ignore the warnings, right? If so, that would be easier than installing yet another tool to do it.

Have you made sure the new HD will boot with the other one unplugged? If so then it's OK to wipe the old HD with Diskpart Clean Command to repartition in Disk Mgmt.

If not then post back a screenshot of Disk Management - Post a Screen Capture Image
