What I find really bad form is the constant reminding to do so if one feels someone has helped.

I've not noticed anyone constantly reminding others to rep them.

If someone does have a high "need" for recognition, then handing them a rep (if the post meets your standards) might just help them. Real life might be getting them down.

As for "having a high reputation makes them that little bit better than anyone else": I've not seen anyone act like that either.

Well perhaps I had better not say anything on this subject because there are members who do refer to others repping them by clicking the scales method if they or others have been helpful. I have not or ever have said that they have actively asked for reputation, and I stand by my principles that if one is good enough to rep then it should not need a reminder to do so.

The only reasons I can see for doing this is for the reasons I alluded to and I will not rep anyone who adds that to their posts because if they are good enough then they really do not need to hint at others repping them when helped out, and I would rep them if I think they deserve it.

Clearly some of those who post "rep if I or others have helped" or "click on the scales at the top corner of the screen" are very good at solving issues (and I readily admit are much more experienced than I) are therefore more able to give advice or offer solutions to problems then I am - therefore I am more than willing to give them reputation on the grounds that they are more capable than I.

Personally i find it very beggingful(if that's a word) for rep, i mean you help people because you want the feeling inside you to feel good about yourself. If you do it just for the rep, I'll consider you as scum.

I love helping people and i feel good inside me that I actually could help someone with their problem.

Those who do it is an ego. This is MY opinion and my thoughts. You are free to throw how much crap at me for my words. This is the way i think, at least.

I wish more people would actually learn how to give REP. Especially the new members rather annoying helping them and not getting some rep back sometimes.

I will never REP anybody that ask for one or asking for one in their signature as you are doing.

I strongly suspect that one reason some people do not give rep, especially newbies, is they do not know or understand the rep system and/or do not realize the scales are the rep button. I'm not asking that the scales be changed to something else (mostly because I have no idea what to change them to); I'm just pointing out that there may be another reason why people don't rep other than a lack of manners.

I have the same principle. However good post, however earned rep would be, begging it is IMO distasteful and ugly. It's not, it should not be the reason we are here.

I'm happy to get any feedback from my posts trying to help someone.
Most of my posts go unanswered, so i don't know if they helped, or caused more problems for the OP.

Now, there is something that makes me so sad.

Old people where treasured as the wise ones. Granddad and Grandma they new al the tricks in live.

Grey hair was the equivalent of wisdom (Gandalf ect ). I was brought up by my grandmother ( because of family circumstances)
and what a good start in live she gave me.

I suppose, time changes everything to fast now for our lovely gray haired friends. My God, it does for me ! But does it ? Perhaps we better take time ( nobody does any more ) to listen a bit to what real facts of live the old can tell us ?

Every thing changes and nothing changes if you really think about it.

Well I am glad I am not the only one who thinks it bad form and Laith hit the nail on the head when he mentioned EGO and in my mind that what it is all about. If someone is that self important or on the other hand has such a high need for recognition then they need help.

If it is that bad go on YouTube and broadcast yourself as the greatest or some poor deserving individual then they will get more hits than they will from me.

Reputation to me is all about knowing who you can rely on - what they say and advise, it has nothing to do with glorification and asking for or hinting at giving it frankly is a form of self gratification:sarc:

Sad it has come to this because although there have been a few that engage in this sort of behavior in the past in general helping out others ahs been all about a humanistic approach and not for self indulgence.

Hey Axe mate there seems to be a load of stuff going on about rep and all that jazz and to me it is not how well decorated you are more how good you are at helping out others less fortunate than your/ourselves.
Personally it does not matter a jot how many badges or banners etc one has more that I know I can ask those better at this than me to help me out too.

There is an old saying "All comes to he who waits" and from what I have seen from your posts you certainly seem to me to know what you are on about and I would not worry about badges because as I said they will come soon enough - I think it more important you keep up the good stuff and like I said good things will follow.

If you want something to add to your siggy as you have stated why not a really well chosen quote or something humorous??
