As in every kind and type of voluntary activity, participating should not be motivated by recognition, rep and badges. To belong in a community like ours here is a reward by itself. We are here to learn new things and share what we know.

About your rep situation: As I have a very strict policy never to rep a member who is begging for it, however good the post, I for instance cannot and will not help you to achieve your next pip or medal or badge as long as the rep begging part is in your sig.

I admit you are more honest in your begging, asking rep directly for yourself, than those who mask their personal begging behind common "If someone helps you please rep" but still that one sentence in your sig is a minus so big it easily outweighs the best possible post thus earning no rep from me.
