Hello everyone. I have a home built system that is seriusly unstable and would really appreciate some help please. I've done multiple homw builds before (this is maybe my 6th over the last decade) and never really had any trouble at all until this one (which also marks my first foray past XP as I never bothered with Vista.
The current windows 7 version is 32 bit
The original windows 7 version was 64 bit
Full retail version of Home premium
The hardware is now about 6 months old
The new OS installation is about 10 days
Basically I installed the 64 bit version initially and suffered multiple hangs / crashes or BSODs. Sometimes the system managed a couple of days, sometimes a couple of minutes between occurance. Recently I did a reinstall to 32 bit in the hope of increasing stability.
The mobo/cpu came with an initial (fairly agressive) overclocking setup by the retailer and ran the CPU fairly warm but well within limits. After a few months the bios was corrupted on start up so I reverted to defaults, in part to investigate whether stability improved. It didn't.
I have been investigating the crash dumps from the 64 bit OS and multiple probable causes were listed, in particular memory corruption. I have run 4 passes with the windows ram checker and 9 with memtest86. No errors are reported.
Many of the crashes at this point were also accompanied by loud screeching/ buzzing from the audio output.
Since installing the the 32 bit version the stability initially seemed improved but I am now back into the realsm of hangs and crashes. BSODs seem to be a smaller proportion but I have had a couple and attach the crash dumps along with the perfmon/report.
Other points of interest. Since installing the 32 bit version perfmon says no AV software is registered with the security centre. I was using AVG at that time. I see in another thread ACG itself can cause BSODS so I used AVGremover and installed MS security essentials instead. Perfmon still says there is no AV software registered though.
I have also turned Driver verification on as suggested in other threads.
I've done the 'obvious' things like checking the latest catalyst version and windows stability updates. Now kind of feeling out of my depth. Any observations gratefully received! Thanks.
