What is it? Why did it suddenly appear?? How do I get rid of it? I think it is slowing down my pc.

Apparently it's Amazon Assistant for Internet Explorer. This MS website will tell you how to remove it.

This Amazon Website also tells you how to remove the plug in. Be sure to click on the Windows 7 tab & the Internet Explorer tab for actual details.

Uninstall Amazon Assistant

I can't explain you would have got it, but sometimes things get added without our authorisation. Perhaps you were searching the web & clicked on Amazon for something & the plug in got added to your browser.

Problem solved. Thank you. It seems a violation of my security that Amazon and arbitrarily alter my pc without my knowledge or approval. Is there a way to block these intrusions?

Thanks for getting back & letting us know your problem is solved. Glad to have been able to help.

You could check on Plug In policies for your particular browser, or if you can prevent Add Ins. But generally speaking there is probably not much you can do.

Amazon Assistant for Internet Explorer apparently is currently bundled with Java installer. It might also come bundled with other software that you installed recently. If you can take a look at recently installed software and give us a list of program names then it might be possible to figure out how to block Amazon Assistant for Internet Explorer but still clean install the software it comes bundled with. The exception is Java. I won't test install it as I refuse to let it onto my system. If you have any other suspects - post the list.
