Resetting the bios password in a wyse powerterm

Hi, so my uncle asked me to fix up his laptop for him. I'm planning on wiping the laptop and put a fresh install of Windows 7 64 bit on it but I noticed the bios was locked and it gave me a hint after getting it wrong 3 times which changes every 3 times. The laptop is a dell wyse powerterm altough I can't find any more info then that, I tried removing the bios battery for more then 5 hours with the battery unplugged although it still retains the bios info. I don't see any jumpers to bridge any ideas? I read online I should call dell although i have no proof of purchase, serial number or anything like that.

HI I do not think we can help with the bios password as we can not verify you are the owner of the computer. but you could try using the one time boot menu to boot to the install media. by pressing F12 when turning on computer.

You say it`s your uncles laptop ?

Did your uncle put a password on the bios ??

As Oscer states, you don`t need to get into the Bios to install windows.

You should not need proof of purchase. But your uncle should be the registered owner. Is there no serial number sticker on the bottom? What would really work best is the Dell "Service Tag" number. This is a unique number assigned to that computer similar to a serial number, but provides more detailed information about the hardware, and the registered owner.

Beyond that, as noted we cannot verify you are who you say you are (even if you said it was your notebook) so discussing how to reset or bypass a password is strictly against the Forum Rules (#6 in this case) we all agreed to abide by when we registered here. Note, this rule is common to every tech site that I am aware of.

I was wanting to know if wyse might of put a bios password on it from factory, which they did. The password ended up being "Fireport" which is a default password so people don't mess with the settings. For some reason there's no service number sticker and no serial or model number so i couldn't even register it to a specific owner if I or they tried before... Its like blank and doesn't even look like it wore off or anything. I completely understand how it looks shady, from what I can understand is it's his co-workers dad who I guess upgraded and the co-worker already has a better laptop so he gave it to my uncle because he doesn't currently have one. Probably didnt need to get into the bios, but I like to confirm my settings and am currently installing Windows 7.
