Hi everyone, this is my first post here.

This issue im having is one i have been battling with for a long time now, the computer will just randomly reset out of nowhere, or more rarely it will lockup and nothing works. Full on frozen, USB items turned off and all.

I get no error message on re-entry to windows, other than the menu with "Start windows normally" and other options on start up. Doesnt matter which you pick.

The computer is bulletproof reliable with Windows XP x64, never ever a glitch. Tested again recently and still perfect.

I can stress test the computer with anything ive thrown at it, including running numerous bench marks all at once, and playing a game at the same time, CPU on 100% for ages, and never misses a beat.

When i do get the reset, its always when something simple is going on, occationally i cant point a finger, but other times there is flash player videos or ads in Internet Explorer running.

The single biggest cause is putting in a Bluray disc, that is an almost certain and near instant in most cases reset. Bluray player is a Pioneer BDC-202.

Arcsoft Total Media Theatre, and any version of PowerDVD will cause it very quickly.

WinDVD 11 doesnt cause it ever so far, but i cant get it to play 3D movies in 3D, even though it plays every thing 2D in stereo 3D if i set it to, and works perfectly ( but then they all do )

I have OCZ INTeL XMP RAM, doesnt matter what you set it to in the BIOS, itll pass any RAM test you can throw at it, and for hours, or even days at a time without a fault.

Ive tried numerous BIOS revisions for the Gigabyte X58 EXTREME mobo, none make any difference. Neither do any settings within the BIOS.

The CPU is an i7 950 at stock speed, with the auto speed adjusting turned off, so it runs at its rated speed at all times. ( why would you ever want it to change... ) Had the same issues with the 920 before it.

The video card is a ZOTAC 9800GT, tried numerous different nVIDIA drivers, and all had and have the same issue.

The power supply is an Antec QUATTRO POWER 880, and it is certainly not the issue, cause if it was, it would also do it with XP and not just 7, and would never hold up to the 100% CPU for the amount of time it does.

The operating system is installed on a pair of OCZ SSDs in RAID0, exactly the same way XP x64 was installed.

Searching around ive never found a thread yet that has a fix to any simular issues.

Im not quite sure where else to go with this, ive tried a hell of alot of stuff, and nothing has made a difference. The fact there is no blue screen makes it alot harder too. ( its set not to automatically restart, but it resets ).

Thanks in advance everyone ;)

Hi there i notice you have a ssd boot drive and if this error is a program compatibility issue why not upgrade to windows 7 its faster than previous versions it supports trim for your SSD and most likely it will fix your program error but since your running Windows XP 64 bit unfortunately you would have to do a Fresh install from Windows XP 64 Bit to Windows 7 64 Bit Links on upgrading below hope it helps you out. :D

Upgrade Windows 7 to Windows 7??

Im not using XP x64, i was using it, and it was bullet proof reliable for a few years.

I have Windows 7 Pro x64. Im sure it says that in my system specs. Been using it a long time.

The next step would probably be to check hardware. I wonder about the RAID array. Windows 7 can be finicky with RAID on some systems. Would you be willing to run without it for a time to see how the system behaves? You should backup any important data because removing RAID will likely result in the need to re-install Windows.

Removing RAID0 will most certainly result in having to reinstall windows mate yes. I wouldnt put money on it being that!!

I found something in the events about a driver called hwinterface.sys being blocked from starting due to being incompatible with something.

It is ( or was ) in the WOW64 folder, all my research thus far seems to suggest this could be the issue, the file seems to be gone though, how can i obtain it?? Ive tried to find a fix for this but havent gotten anywhere as yet.

hey,

even though you already said it is certainly not the PSU as it would/should do the same on other OS, i'd still give it a try to test it with a different one. I remember having that problem with one of our ESX, the machine kept doing unexpected reboots, all hardware stress tests with different tools where perfect, nothing happend. But the ESX kept doing shit. After replacing all Hardware one part after the other we where still having that issue. Since we replaced the PSU it's fine. The old PSU is running in a test Win 2008 R2 machine doing a great job, except you run ESX on it, or certain linux systems...
Hope that helps :)
Best regards

I was unable to find any information regarding that driver. Is it among your services in msconfig? The clean startup would have resolved it if it were the cause of the problems and it shows up as a non-Microsoft service. If it is a Microsoft service, try disabling its startup, or you can set it to manual through the Services options: Start Menu -> Type Services into the Search programs and files (do not hit enter) -> Right click the Services with the gears icon -> Click Run as administrator -> Right click the hwinterface service -> Click Properties -> Click the General tab (if necessary) -> Change Startup Type to Manual

No its not in the services. I couldnt find much on it either. It was causing an issue saying it couldnt start, but it stopped that and is no longer there at all.

ixi85, ive tested the PSU with my multi meters and both gave the same readings, and there isnt even a flutter in the power delivery on any voltage output. Im an electrician by trade, so im pretty confident with the results i got from the tests there. If i get hold of a spare at any point that is big enough for the job ill give it a go...

Well i just did a full re-install of Windows 7, fully updated, only absolute essentials installed and it did the reset on first test with a bluray disc. With both Total Media Theatre, and Power DVD11 Ultra.

When i say full re-install, i mean properly, as in completely remove all data from the drive, and start from base nothing, using the disc to install from scratch.

Is there any other way i can run 3D bluray discs in 3D using my nVIDIA glasses on Windows 7? ( its not the 3D causing the resets, its those 2 programs when running blurays... )
