I am running Windows 7 Ultimate with 2 gb of memory. The hard drive is 1TB with four (4) partitions:

C 25 gb with (12gb used/13gb free)
D 25 gb with (1gb used/24gb free)
E 440gb with (26gb used/414 free)
F 443gb with (182 used/161 free)

There is zero unallocated space.

My goal is to (without a complete reinstall and repetitioning) increase the size of the C drive so that I can use Virtual PC to install Windows XP on C drive. For this I need to add 25 gb to C drive. I would like to use space from the E drive.

I do not know if this possible or not. If it is, I would like some guidence on how it can be done.

First you will need a partition software... you can move the the 1GB from D to a usb drive and merge C and D together then you can creat a new 25GB partition in E and move back the 1GB from the usb drive .

You can also do this in Win7s Disk Management.

basically the same thing. move the 1GB of DATA on D to somewhere safe.

Delete (D) so its unallocated and Extend (C)

You can then Shrink (E) and create a new partition and move your 1GB of DATA back.

Either method should work, depending which you prefer.

Thanks for the info. I have Partition Wizard which I think is a good partition manager and I know how to use Disk Manager to shrink a partition, but I have never extended a partition.

I understand the concept, but why delete D drive, why NOT just shrink E drive creating unallocated space and then extend C drive?

Because C is not adjacent to E.

I decided it was easier just to reinstall windows 7 and partition it the way I wanted.

It was very smoothly and it is now partitioned the way I want.
