Not sure where to post this so I thought I would put it here and see if anyone can shed any light on the issue.
I am using a 32" HDTV for display on a 9600GT card DVI-VGA connection.
Windows 7 detects my monitor as a generic plug and play monitor and says it has a native res of 1280x1024 and wants to run in that format. It strechs the image to full screen if this monitor is the primary display. If it is secondary display the I get black bars top and bottom and image is distorted even more to to streching and squishing.
I have tried no driver, the driver that was current at the time I installed windows 7 and the latest one as of yesterday. None of them will work properly on this system.
If I change the settings to a wide screen format like say 1280x768 [this works fine under xp, win 2k and vista] in Win7 I get black bar top and bottom like it was running on a 4x3 display and picture is distorted and on top of that with the latest drivers it only gives me 60hz to choose as a refresh rate which my monitor does not like. I run 1024x768 75hz under XP, Vista and Win2K all work well Also can run 1024x720 on all 3 of them but nothing seems to give the proper result under windows 7.

Also tried Windows 7 X64 Pro same result.
So far have not tried it on a different box but this is really bugging me. I need to get a wide screen res working on this montior under win 7 ASAP.
I had the same issue with my setup. I had to install the driver and let Windows 7 do what it wanted to the resolution, I then used the TV's screen controls to stretch the picture to fit the screen without the black bars. Looks great here.

Tried forcing the resolution closest I have maaged to get is a shaky picture with a small black bar on each side at 60 hz.
Have not tried the auto adjust feature on the montior yet. Did not think of that. Will try and see what happens.
The auto settings did shift the phase a bit and appears to have taken away the shakiness. Still have a bit of a black bar on each edge of the screen but is much better than before.
My monitor has Vert and Horz position scalers but not size adjustments so I can't srink the picture nor strech all I can do is toggle 16:9 <--> 4:3 the later of which shows bars on the sides and looks fine at 1280x1024 but does not use the entire display area.
I have a 1080i HDTV and the DVI connector is CRAP. hehe Well it doesn;t have to be but it seems like some TVs don;t even export the widescreen modes through the DVI connector. Also the contrast was really bad, totoaly blown out whites.
I ended up using the component out of the video card instead (The RGB Compunent out not Svideo or the "Video" out) and I could set the resolution to a nice 720 or 1024 vert widescreen mode and get full screen converage and the color/contrast look great!

In my case the monitor does not have a DVI. The 9600GT has dual DVI output and I am using a DVI to VGA adapter to connect to the 15 pin VGA connector of the TV. Works great on my KVM switch. I have 4 pcs connected to it 2 of which have only a VGA output on them.
I did have a set with a DVI input. It was total crap, no widescreen formats poor sound, so so picture quality. I took it back after 24 hours and got this one. Never had an issue until Windows 7 but looks like the phase adjustment and the new driver is what was needed.
Most TV's only support VGA 15 pin to VGA 15 pin or DVI to HDMI. I have not seen DVI to VGA 15pin work correctly. Using the VGA 15 pin on the TV will only give you the resolution the manufacture has set. Typically this is 4:3 even if the TV supports 16:9. I had many problems like this when I first started using my TV as a monitor. The best is HDMI to HDMI the next is DVI to HDMI you can use the native resolution of the TV that way. Look in your owner’s manual it should state the maximum resolution connected to the VGA 15 pin. If your TV has HDMI buy a DVI to HDMI cable or a DVI to HDMI connector and a HDMI to HDMI cable and connect it from the computer to the TV. Most likely you will get the best picture and a better resolution.

I had forgotten all about this thread. My 32" monitor took a dive and I replaced it with a new 37" HD display. No problems at all after the swap. Windows automatically set it to 1920x1024 and looks great.
I am thinking that the other monitor not being full HD was part of the issue, though it did work fine under XP and Vista.
In any case the problem was solved with the new monitor.
