Resolution Problems

I have a 20 inch monitor that calls for a resolution of 1600x900 and my widow 7 version only goes up to 1440x900. Consequently the words on my computer are blurry. Is there something I can get to correct this?

What Graphics Card (GPU) or Integrated Graphics (IGP) do you have?
Is your GPU/IGP Video driver up to date?

What type of connection do you use - VGA, HDMI, DVI, etc. ?
The monitor may support different resolutions depending on the connection type.
Check your monitor documentation for this.

From what I found for the HP S2031, VGA or DVI should support 1600x900.
If you have or can get a DVI-D cable you could try that to see if it is better.
DVI is a digital connection, and VGA is Analog...

There is a driver available for the monitor - I'm not sure if you have this installed ???

You can check the Dell support site for your PC/MODEL to see what drivers are available for the IGP.

To see what Video driver you currently are using:

Enter Device Manager in the Start Search box
Click Device Manager
Expand Display adapters
Right click the adapter and click Properties
Look at the Driver tab

If you haven't done so, you can enable and configure ClearType.
It won't add 1600x900, but can make the screen easier to read.

Enter ClearType in the Start Search box
Click Adjust ClearType text, and follow the instructions

Create a Restore Point (or Backup Image) before making any changes so you have an easier way to back out changes if needed.

Non of these things have helped, but this is what I don't get. Windows 7 is reading my computer and says my native resolution is 1280x720. How is it reading that and what can I do to get it to get the correct reading. It also says in further reading that the proper reading for 20 in monitor is 1600x900 How can they say that when they don't even offer that? Checked the Monitor and it has the updated drivers. So that's not the problem. But why is it not seeing that I have a 20 in monitor???

I forgot to mention that above the resolutions it says that I have a hp2031 wide screen and still says that the native resolution is 1280x720

I have another cable that came with the monitor but there is no plug for it on the computer that I can see

You should add it to your specs.
Your PC may not have DVI (or HDMI) built in.

Well, thanks for trying to help, Looks like Windows 7 is just another buggy mistake from Microsoft. What else is new?

My model is Dell Optiplex GX620

I don't see any Win 7 or Vista drivers listed for the Optiplex GX620 on the Dell support site.
The newest drivers I see are for XP...

On the Intel support site I only find Win 7 32 bit drivers for the 82945G Chipset.

What chipset / video driver are you using and where did you get it?

Did you run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor before installing Win 7?

You can download and run it now while running Win 7...
See if it shows any issues for your video device.
