Resolution

I am completely stumped. I have an ATI HD 4650. I have tried both the drivers, one from the ATI website, and the second from windows update. I have a toshiba 22" monitor, that windows detects as Generic Non-Pnp. Every time I try to change the resolution to anything other than 1024x768, I end up with a black screen which eventually gets returned back to 1024.

It doesn't shot a recommended resolution in windows 7, my resolution worked fine in windows XP. I can't figure this out, any advice on where to go from here would be great. I am running Build 7100.

Yeah, you'll need to find Windows 7 / Vista drivers for your monitor - since it is being detected as a non plug-and-play, Windows is playing it safely and not allowing resolutions above 1024 x 768.

At least, that is my guess - what is the model number of the monitor?

Also, use the My System Specs

link underneath your user name on the left to fill in your system completely....

It is a Toshiba 19lv505. I have looked all over their site for drivers for my monitor, no such luck. Also I tried to let windows find one, with no such luck. I just made this account, I will update my specs now.

Kewl - that is it - so which interface are you using to connect your video card to it?

That's it man, perfect. I am using a VGA-DVI adapter.

It might be the adapter itself that is causing the problems. Since he TV has only a standard VGA input, it can be used as a monitor, but with it being an LCD HDTV, I'd probably use the HDMI input instead.

As for drivers, though....that is a tough one....

Ahh, ok. So I will go grab an HDMI cable from Wal-Mart or something. If I grab that, do you think I will be able to push a better resolution? Or am I pretty SOL until October or until they release a driver. This worked fine on XP . Also it has a VGA slot on the card as well, would it work any better if I used that?

OK, from the users manual:

Connecting to a PC (Personal Computer)
Before you connect this TV/DVD to your PC, change the adjustment of your PC’s Resolution and Refresh rate (60 Hz).

Connect one end of a (male to male) VGA cable to the video card of the computer and the other end to the VGA connector PC MONITOR on the rear of the TV/DVD. Attach the connectors firmly with the screws on the plug. In case of a Multimedia computer,
connect the audio cord to the audio output of your Multimedia computer and to the AUDIO connector of the PC AUDIO IN jack of the TV/DVD.

Select “PC” by pressing INPUT repeatedly.

Switch on the computer. The TV/DVD can operate as the computer monitor

The on-screen displays will have a different appearance in PC mode than in TV mode.
If there is no video signal from the PC when the unit is in PC mode, “No signal” will appear on the TV/DVD-screen.

If your video card has HDMI capability, I'd at least *try* that to see if Windows will recognize the TV - also, you might try a different DVI --> VGA adapter as not all of them transfer the full information - there are actually 3 different types of DVI connectors, see Digital Visual Interface - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia for more information.

Ok I will go grab an HDMI cord now. I just tried to connect it without the DVI adapter onto the VGA port on my card, I got no signal whatsoever. I might try to grab another DVI adapter if they are cheap. Thanks for all the help man, and sorry about earlier. If you think of anything else, please leave it here and I will check it as soon as I return.

You really need to conect it through DVI->HDMI, in order to get an EDID dump and sort things out.
If that is not possible, you can try this custom driver (attached). Added 1680x1050 (16:10) detailed timings as native resolution, if it does not work 1360x768 is provided as a fall-back. Also test 1280x720. Every resolution should be setup on 60Hz only!
Use tsb_dvi.inf if you connect it through DVI/HDMI, and tsb_vga.inf for the VGA port.

Do it at your own risk, I do not know the Monitor Range Limits for your device so I had to improvise.

Hello Waka, and welcome to Seven Forums.

After you extracted the .ini files from the ZIP file, you would right click on each .ini file one at a time, and click on Install to do so.

:busted: Be warned though. Do not do this unless you have the exact same monitor, or you risk serious damage to your monitor.
