Resource Hacker question

I don't hold out much hope of getting a response, but I have a 'Curious George' question about Resource Hacker.

I've used Resource Hacker over the years to change the icons of a number of programs whose native icons I just did not like. Although the desktop and taskbar icons that result are the replacement icons I have set, when I actually open the program, its icon in the taskbar reverts to the original. It's no big deal to me. I was just curious about why this happens. I would have thought if I replaced the icon inside the executable, it would show the new icon no matter what.

Any replies would be greatly appreciated.

Are you changing the icons before or after installation? That may make a difference. If after installation, I'd look in that directory and see if those images are there.

Edit-

Running Resource Hacker and trying to modify the installation .exe for Resource Hacker its self, I see there are multiple icons of different sizes that need to be changed. So with that. What ever .exe you're modifying you need to change each icon with its respective size. Once that's done then you can install that program.
