 I bought a hp dv7-4263cl laptop used. Mistake #1 I know. But at $200 it was a great deal with a 17,3 screen, 8 gig, 750hd, etc. Kids had crashed it and deleted the recovery partition trying to fix it before they told dad. He had the 6 restore dvd's so I bought it. When I run the disk, it goes all the way to the end, then says this file is missing HP_P2PP_LOG. How do I add this file to the recovery disk so I can restore it and all the programs. Which disk would it need to be on ? Can I open the disk, insert it in the correct location, then burn a new disk ? There has to be a way to do this but it's over me, and I'm clueless. It wont let me burn another set. I saw a thread about doing so, but couldn't find the files it was talking about in windows search. PLEASE !!:confused::cry:

I suggest a install Windows instead of using the HP recovery media.

You'll have a system without the vendor 'bloatware' (stuff OEMs put on machines that use resources but don't add that much value).

There might be one or two worthwhile programs (CyberPower) but you should be able to download any ancillary programs from the HP support site for that machine.

Read the tutorial and ask questions - I'll emphasize that you should download the Wireless Driver and place it on a thumbdrive. Windows Update (WU) will give you most of the hardware drivers, but you have to get to the WU service - the best method is to connect to the Cable modem with a cat5 cable (it's faster and the base Ethernet driver will get you going in no time).

Everything is explained in the tutorial with a step-by-step process.
