I was successfully able to create a restore point in Windows 7 Home Premium, however when I tried to restore to that point, I finally got the message that Windows could not restore because files were in use, or my antivirus was preventing that, and no files or settings were changed. I uninstalled the antivirus program and got the same error message. My question is, should I try to restore in Safe Mode?

Thank you.

While I have not used Windows SRP in awhile, the advice you gathered sounds pretty good! I have been using a 3rd party backup and restore utility for some time now. While the backups take some time my C and D respectively, the restores have been flawless so far.

Doing a system restore in safe mode is useful when this is not normally possible. Restoring from a ssttem inage would probably be better but that requires that you have previously created one.

When a system restore is done in normal more it first creates a restore point. This makes it possible to undo the restore if necessary. Since it is not possible to create a restore point in safe mode a system restore would be non reversible. Creating the restore point first in normal mode makes this possible.

Thank you for that valuable information. Fortunately, I was able to fix my problem without having to use a restore point. I really appreciate your advice.

Hello, I originally posted this in the Software Forum, because I couldn't get Windows Installer Service to work, no matter what, whenever I was prompted for a program update. I quote the solution:

"Hi Roy, I purchased a Windows Repair program a few months ago to see if it would help restore missing icons in MS Office after many attempts on my own, however it didn't. The program is called PC Scan & Repair by Reimage and I decided to run it for this problem. It took over 3 hours, but it did the trick! Thank you for your continuing effort to help me.

Since then, I have another problem that I just posted in the Networking and Sharing Forum:

My "User Name" isn't listed on other computers

Hello, Everything was working fine for months, until we had a power outage and I had to reset the FiOS Router. I solved my limited network access, however on my Gateway computer I can see: Network>Gateway>Users>Ivan but the two other computers just see Network>Gateway>Users>Public. Not my user name, Ivan. What is causing this? The problem must be in the settings on this Gateway running Windows 7 Home Premium. I checked every setting that I could think of. I appreciate your help.

Thank you,
Ivan

Perhaps you could shed some light on that problem.:)

Thank you.
