Solved Restore libraries?

Hi,

I removed the Public folder from libraries i.e Docs, Music, Pics and Vids, how can I restore it back to default i.e 2 locations vs. 1?

Two ways - go to the folder you wish to include and right click and then select the Add to Library option and add the folder

the other is to go to the actual library and select properties and then add the folders you wish to add

This assumes of course that you still have access to the public folders you wish to add to libraries

I still get only 1 location, and that too if clicked displays unresponsive?

Am unable to get back the default 2 locations.

Can add folders etc.

Any more thoughts.

Tried Shawn's tutorial's both option i.e restore default and reg option, but still the same.

You could go into the library and change the default save location to another folder, if this works then try restoring the original location - windows sometimes gets a little confused if standard OS folders or links to them are not where expected

I've just checked on my (W10) system and it may be that the default save location may have been set to the public folder when this was removed - If you have only one folder in the library you cannot change the location.

You may be able to get around this restriction by adding any existing folder temporarily to the library to allow you to set this folder then re-set to the folder you want and then remove the temp folder from the library

Is it possible to get both Public and User restored?

I tried your method, but still get message displayed, unresponsive?

Assumed that from 2 to 1 location and back wouldn't be a hasssle?

Mmm I would have suggested the default option but looks like yours is out of whack.

Now obvious I suppose but have you run these?
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker
Disk Check < if necessary include the /f and /r in the command line as per Option2
Run these in safe mode and the sfc sometimes best run for two to three runs – you can leave out the /r switch in ckdsk if you feel it not necessary

If you have a backup to before the changes that would be a good option

The problem with windows system folders is that the have all sorts a special "additions" to make them work as intended, these include things like hidden/system files in each folder and sometimes special DLL files and of course there are often entries in the registry. These additions are often deleted by the act of deleting the folder itself, but are not re-created if you then recreate the folder.

If you make your restore from backup it should work,assuming all the interconnected links and files are present, however I have known occasions where a problem with system files can only be repaired fully with a complete re-install.

If the worst does happen and you still want to regain the functionality of the Public folders - this may be possible manually it would involve

• Removing all currents remnants of the Public Folders
• Creating a new folder structure (not using Public but some other title)
• setting files/folder permissions to give everyone full access.
• Adding the new folders to the libraries
• For full regeneration the new folders should also be added to the Homegroup with everyone access

As you can see it's a good thing that you have your backups
