You can lower the amount of disk space allocated to system restore and that will effectively lower the number of restore points that will exist in your system at any given time.

Right click on the "My Computer" icon and select "Properties".

You should really only need about 2 or 3. The more you have the more disk space it is using.

Right, and the way to automatically limit the number of restore points that can exist in your system at any one time is to simply reduce the amount of disk space that system restore is allowed to use in the manner illustrated in one of the previous posts above.

One person replied enough for about a week, and another replied 2-3.

What if a person creates 2-3 per day, or maybe 1 per day? Should they go by the time or the total number? The lower quantity of the two, or the larger?

Let's say they are loading up a new computer with software and are creating a restore point before they install some applications.

It is really a personal choice. There are a number of questions you should ask yourself. How many do you feel comfortable with? Do you also image? Do you use Previous Versions?
