Hello,

Thought I would change the automatic doing of a Restore Point, and make it more often.

But, I cannot find where to do so.

I have screens that come up after doing search for restore Point that show Configure, etc., but nothing that seems to allow a setting for how often, or when, you want them done (automatically).

Where is it, please ?

Thanks,
bob

You can do so by changing a value in the registry.

Open regedit in enhanced (elevated) mode and browse to the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\SystemRestore and locate the following key value in the right-hand panel: RPGlobalInterval

Double click on this key value, select the Base as Decimal and then enter the time interval required. This is in seconds, so to create a restore point once a day it will be 86400. For once a week, this value will be 604800.

They are made at various times depending on how much space is allocated, the oldest is deleted as the latest is created. You can make more room from, rt click computer, properties, system protection. Use the slider to increase the amount of space. This will store more restore points.

Only follow this bit if you are familiar with regedit.......back up the registry first.

To change the number it makes (default is one per day) open regedit

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\SystemRestore

click on the SystemRestore key in the right pane look for the entry
RPsessionInterval.
Double click on it to edit it.
Use the decimal input tab and change to 2 to double the frequency and so on.

reboot to apply.

Hello Bob,

In addition, you could use METHOD TWO in the tutorial below and modify it a bit for how often you want a restore point to be automatically created.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/67114-system-restore-point-create-system-startup.html

With more restore points being created, you might also consider using the tutorial below to increase the maximum disk space used by restore points to be able to keep more of them saved. As Cyclic posted above, when the max space runs out, older restore points are deleted automatically to make room for new ones.

Hope this helps,
Shawn
