I have a Windows Seven 64 bit system that I can't get to restore. I have cleaned up the registry and other things but I keep getting "unspecified error during restore 0X80070005" Any suggestions?
Thanks, Dick

From looking on Google, looks like you might try uninstalling your antivirus before you try restoring. If that doesn't work, try doing a restore from Safe Mode.

I finally did a restore from Safe mode and it worked. Then I tried to do another restore in normal mode and I got the same old error message "unspecified error during restore 0X80070005." Anyway, I'm ok with doing a restore from Safe mode until somebody can tell me what that error is. Thanks for the Safe mode suggestion.

There is one thing you need to be aware of regarding System Restore in Safe mode. When the restore is done in normal mode the first thing done is to create a new restore point allowing the restore to be reversed. Not in Safe mode. Safe mode being what it is only essential services are running and that means restore points cannot be created. A System Restore done in Safe mode cannot be reversed.

When I used Restore after Safe mode, I believe I was normal. I rebooted and then asked for a different restore point than I had asked for before. It was a restore point that had been there all along.
