Restored system to an earlier restore point

My PC wouldn't boot up this morning, after the third or fourth attempt it finally did. The System event log had the following entry: Restored system to an earlier restore point. How can I determine what was actually done (or undone)?

A couple of seconds afterward this was posted in the Application log:

Usually before a restore point is used, the system will make a restore point, so that you can return to it if necessary. If one was created, tell SR you want to go back to that point. Before you are actually sent back, you are given an option to see what will be changed. Utilize that option. Hope that the earlier point is there, to check

In my case, the event log message indicated that a restore was already successful. My question was what did it restore to. I did look at the windows restore application. It showed me a restore point made last night (15 hours after the restore supposedly occurred) and the next most recent restore point was 5 days ago. When I look at what files would be affected by either of those two restore points, the list was identical. This makes no sense. Unless, of course, the latter critical update restored what the previous one un-did. Anyway, my system is working, so I'll leave well enough alone.

The interesting think is that the only thing I might have done differently yesterday was that I plugged my ipod in sometime earlier to the boot failure.
