Restoring Dual boot Xp/Win 7 to single boot Xp

^^ I can't boot into Windows 7. That's the problem. I'll run the startup repair 3 times as stated to get it working again. I actually did a system image backup earlier that I might just do anyway, or start from scratch again. I've got some time tonight so I'll just see how I'm feeling.

At any rate, all of the help is very much appreciated.

I did the startup repair 3x last night on the Win7 drive and it seems to have worked. However, now, for some reason (could be complete coincidence), when I boot from the XP drive, it will get past the XP logo loading screen and then just stay blank while the hard drive churns indefinitely. So, that's neat.

Normally Win7 startup repair will recover the ability of Win7 to boot, then the other OS needs to be added back using EasyBCD.

Please post back a screenshot of your full Disk Management drive map, using the Snipping Tool in Start Menu attaching file using paper clip in reply box.

Also install EasyBCD and attach screenshot of the listings on its front panel. View attachment 44359

That's how everything stands now, with F: obviously being my XP partition. Now, keep in mind, XP will boot and everything so it had a bootloader, but once it gets past the XP logo/progress screen, it just stays blank with the HDD churning.

If you want to keep the two drives independent and booted via the BIOS F key, then XP needs to have its boot corrected.

I would run an XP Repair Install to achieve this, with the Win7 drive unplugged.

I only get a dual boot menu when booting to my XP drive, of which booting to Win7 now works and XP works up until after the splash logo then hangs now (I'm assuming it needs a fixboot/fixmbr done to it now). I can also just boot directly to the Win7 drive of which I get no option which OS to boot to, it just goes straight to Win7 (how I wanted it all along). I don't want the dual boot menu on either drive. I simply want to F8 at startup each time to figure which drive I want to boot to.

Boot into 7 , then in Easy Power Console, type: ( replace ? with XP drive letter as seen by 7)

Do you mean Powershell? I just tried looking up help for bootsect and it says it's not a recognized command.

I would do a repair install of XP with Win7 unplugged to make it fully independent to boot via BIOS boot order and F8 BootMenu key.

But SIW2 should have the advanced commands.

Ah, ok. Yea, I have EBCD installed on Win7. Just ran that command and said it worked successfully. We'll see what happens when I boot into Xp later on.

Is it the tab: Manage Bootloader>Uninstall Vista bootloader (use to restore XP)?

But does XP here have a Vista bootloader, or does it restore the boot files anyway?

7 bootfiles shouldn't be on the XP HD - if he wants totally separate installations selecting via key.

If he's still having trouble booting XP :

ntdetect.com and ntldr are in Easy profiles folder - copy to XP partition if necessary.

Also check boot.ini is there and pointing the right way.
