Hi,
Ive done a clean install, and i previously backed up my Vaio. When i try to restore programs however, it wont let me do it. It says "your files have been restored" but also says " some program or system files were skipped because they cannot be restored to original location. To restore these files, try restoring the files again and select a different location." Which location do i chose so that the programs appear in my "all programs" tab? Thanks in advance.

You don't "restore" programs.

You should reinstall them.

Exactly, what tool was used to create the backup?

A "clean" installation will only save Documents,, Music, Picture, Videos, Documents, etc.

All 3rd party programs will have to be re-installed.

You may find a directory named C:\windows.old which can be safely deleted.

Ideally when you perform a Restore whatever tool you use will configure restore points to a similar OS. Logically if you change the OS the restore tool won't be able to recognize the environment and the programs won't work.

it's like putting fresh water fish into salt water ;)
