i want to reinstall win7. i have 2x2tb drives that i have attached to a separate SIL card, which like an idiot did not create the raid within the Raid card itself. what i did was spanned the drives under windows so it cane appear as one drive. my question is, if i was to reinstall windows from scratch, will the new install pick up the spanned drives as 1 drive and remember everything as it was or will i risk loosing all data and have to recreate the spanned drives? thank you in advance for your help.

What benefit do you need from RAID which Win7 doesn't much like and we never see anything here but problems with? It is not redundant and you lose both HD's if one fails, so its better and more modern to install to one HD in AHCI mode with the other unplugged, then after install use the other HD for storing a backup image and your file backup for quick reimaging if the first HD should fail or Win7 becomes irreparable.

creating a Raid within the card itself guarantees that if i was to reinstall windows at any given time or move the raid over to another system, the data will be kept safe and no corruption will occur as long as the drives are in the same setup. I NEVER do a disk check since i know that tends to destroy raids. as my question previously stated, if i was to do a SPANNED disk setup that windows offers (similar to making a raid, JBOD), will a reinstall completely delete all data since it was configured within windows itself?

No RAID or spanned volume is stable enough to count on anything, which is why we only see problems and no successes with RAID and spanned volumes here.

Now, what are the benefits you are hoping to achieve with RAID or Span?

prefer to have the multiple disk listed as one instead. i can better track what is in which drive if majority, for the most part, are merged to appear as a single drive.
