Hi guys I'm really new to this,

I had a nas drive which failed, I took the hard drive out and put it in my computer to see if I could get the drive into life,

I can see the drive Q: in my computer but says restricted access, so did a bit of digging and people have said you have to re own it in permissions but this also is denied

Can anyone help me get access to my drive as all my personal family photos are on there as well as music and business details, I have backups of most things but not my photos which is probably the most precious to me,

Hope to hear from you

Regards

Lee

Hi, what's a Nas drive?

When my old XP computer failed to boot up because the HDD was considered dead, I installed a new HDD and re-installed the XP OP system which worked.......the old drive was re-installed, but as a slave drive, and that appeared as drive D in the My Computer drives listing.....all files present and correct, just XP OP system files were not on it.
Ian.

PS, is a NAS drive one of those bulk storage off computer external dives for storing files etc....all your eggs in one basket etc?

Hi Lee, welcome to Sevenforums!

The first thing I would try is booting your computer with a Live Linux disc, such as Ubuntu, Mint, or whatever. Just use the "try now", don't install anything.

You should be able to bypass any restrictions Windows has placed on the files.

Use the file explorer (or whatever it is named on the Linux disc) and copy the important files to another drive.
