I have win7 home premium on a laptop and a desktop for my kids. I have them set as standard users not administrators. I there some way to prevent them from installing programs or deleting any files? I want them to be able to play their games (mostly Minecraft) and browse. I have Mobicip installed and use it for parental controls. I keep both computers protected with MBAM Pro and MSE, but I want to prevent other problems which would require me to wipe and reinstall Windows. My son (8) is particularly resourceful and I already have to password protect the BIOS to keep him out.

Any suggestions?

A standard account cannot install or uninstall applications, change system settings, or (by default) delete files that are outside their user profile. They can run most applications. Standard user accounts were specifically designed for that purpose. Unless you have some unusual requirements you don't need to do anything.

Odd. I verified that my son is set as standard user, but was able to install several programs.

Have you got it setup where everyone has to log on with their own password? If not they are using your account quite possibly. Give them a password, that you know, and have them signon with it. That should stop any using of your account.

I tried Mobicip for a year. Just set him up on a new Win 8 mini Dell laptop with Microsoft Family Safety enabled and him as Child Account. So far this is working well.
