Resuming files from their last position in both "OS"s

Hi,

I knew I shouldn't have posted such thread in here, but I couldn't find any place better. sry for that.

Here's my problem: I use IDM to download my files, and I download huge files which usually take about 10 hrs with my 2Mb. I use my both operating systems, so sometimes I switch to this and that. But I'm not able to resume the file I was downloading in my XP from 7. I also tried to set the Temp folder as the same. But didn't work either. What should I do?

You can't "share" incomplete downloads in a download manager in this fashion, because in each operating system, each installed version of the download manager program have their own unique configuration settings stored for download progress, and there is no way of usng a single download configuration across two or more operating systems.

Rather allow the download to complete before rebooting into the other os...

You know any other download manager which can do it? Cos torrents are resume'able. I wonder how. However it's configuration is much more complicated...

Yes, torrents are resumable, but not across different OS installations.

Case in point: If I start a torrent and allow it to get to say 25% complete, then stop it, backup the torrent file and the partial download, reload windows (of even just uninstall and reinstall utorrent(, then restore the backup, the download will begin from the start,

The only way I think you could do this is with a Portable Download Manager. If you have a DATA drive that is shared between both OS's you could make a folder D:\DLM and put the software in there. Then you would be able to run it from XP or W07. If the software is truly portable it will work. You would also have to save the downloads on the shared DATA drive so it would be available to both OS’s.
