Returning from Windows 8

It is very unintuitive and unergonomic - those are reasons to find it irritatating.

But it can be learnt.

The real problem with windows 8 is much deeper than that.

It is about removing choice to ensnare people into the MS clouds.

Like a hidden malignancy, many people seem completely unaware of it.

You can't blame MS directly- that is what corporations are supposed to do. They are not the only ones.

MS have run into problems with the regulators by doing things like that before. I wonder if they will have to offer Firefox metro as an alternative to IE10.

For example:

MS know from WDP that many were using the reg hack to go straight to the desktop , use the start menu and completely avoid Metro.

That is what users want.

It is not what MS want.

They have removed the ability to do that,they have removed the start menu code, they have removed taskbar code from explorer.exe.

It is not really about the browser, it is about getting people to automatically sign up, get apps. sync devices, etc - without even thinking about it.

That is why they keep thrusting metro at the user.

I guess we all agree that a minimal initial explanation is required. Whether that is in a little booklet that comes with the system or some built-in instructions when the system first boots remains to be seen.

But from the first screen with the flowers that hides the log-in screen it is difficult to get going if you have no clue. I only knew because it is similar in Android which I once ran on the desktop - just roll the wheel on the mouse.

After seeing Chris Pirillo's video, they have been considering some little pop up tutorial.

I don't know what form the instructions will finally take - but they cannot risk doing nothing - it would be suicide.
