Reversi-like Game

A while back I had a cd that had a bunch of games for windows. One of the games was a great game, sort of like Othello and Reversi. One player used the green squares and the other player (or computer) used the red squares. The pieces had a sort of marble or lightening pattern on them. When one piece took over a space there was a sort of slamming sound. Does anyone know what this game is called ?

Update : I looked for a while and found the cd-rom with the games. The game I'm looking for is called Dominate. But the cd said that I don't have the right version of the software or of windows. The cd case does say Windows 3.1 or Windows 95. Is there any way to get the game for windows 7 ?

Hi Spottedfeather,

You can try installing/running the games using Compatibility Mode with Windows 95 settings. Let me know if that works for you.

I believe you right click the file and in properties it will say compatibility mode. Select the version of Windows from the drop down box be it 3.1 or 95. Not sure how far back it goes though.

How do I do install something using compatibility ?
Kylehimself is correct; if the CD-ROM does not launch an install process on insertion, then right-click the CD-ROM in your Computer folder and select Explore. Right-click the game's .exe and select Properties. Switch to the Compatibility tab and change the Compatibility to Windows 95. Click OK.

Let me know if that works...

EDIT: To clarify, it might be an old enough game that it doesn't install, but simply runs off the CD-ROM. In that case, follow the instructions in this post.

Yep sure thing - did you get Space Cadet up & running?

How is Dominate coming along, Spottedfeather? Did our advice help you at all?

I tried running it from a copy I took off the disk. When I have the time, I'll try installing it from the disc.

I didn't work. I set the compatability for both the program and the installer. Nothing happened. It just told exactly what it told me every time I tried to make it work - I need and x86 or x64 version of the program. I don't know what to do. I really like this game but I have no way of playing it. It's called Dominate. By the way, follow what instructions in which post ?

I meant follow the instructions from earlier in that same post. But it sounds like that didn't work.

I can't find any information on Dominate, but I have a suspicion it might be able to run in MS-DOS, in which case you can try using DOSBox, a free emulator that works in Windows 7. Let me know if that gets you anywhere...

I got DosBox, but it's the most confusing thing I've ever seen. I've never used DOS before. I've been a MAC guy....until now. Not by choice, mind you. How do I run a program with DOSBox ?

Update : I just found some instructions, but it doesn't work. It took me a while to figure it out, but it's not a DOS game. It has to run under Windows. Windows sucks.

Yeah, I was afraid of that. Is there any more information you can give us about the game, other than its name and what platform it's designed for? Even the developer/publisher would be enough to help...

The game is called Dominate. It is on a disc called Galaxy Of Games 2 - Over 300 Games For Windows. Compatible with Windows 3.1 & Windows 95. It's made by either Rom Tech or Galaxy Of Games. Both names are on the cd.

Well that helped narrow it down to the actual product at least... but no dice on support information. The only other thing I can think of would be to upgrade to Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise, or Ultimate, download XP Mode, and try to run the CD there. But I don't blame you if you don't feel it's worth all that :)
