Reversing WIN10 blockers
System: Acer Aspire X3475, AMD A8-5500 APU with Radeon HD 3.2 GHz. WIN7 home premium. Service pack 1.
About June 2016 I wanted to protect my 64 bit computer from sneak-in WIN 10.
As a precaution of possibly changing my mind about replacing WIN 7 I downloaded WIN10-32 & WIN10-64 onto memory stick and DVD.
I run the following 2 programs:
___YYY__Win10Blocker___never10.exe
___YYY__WIN10 DisEnAble Selector___GWX_control_panel.exe
I modifies the front of the program name so I would know what these are for and not start them just to find out.

Since then WIN10 stuff did no longer appear in the WIN7 update list.
However, all 76 updates for WIN7 were blocked too. The update process would list them, I permitted, the "download & install" process would run forever.
Next day WIN7 update would again offer 76 WiN7 updates.
I run the WIN7 update permission about 3 times, then gave up.

Now as the free WIN10 period has passed maybe there is less or no danger of WIN10 sneaking in for free. So it might be a good idea to reverse the effect of the 2 programs I run.
What is your opinion and what should be done, and how?

Well you can delete the above in registry and uninstall GWX Control Panel - or just disable real time protection from within the GUI.

Leaving those registry entries won't hurt.

Hi Ezwin,
Installing BOTH blockers was a bad idea.
They would have been competing to do the same thing and could easily have caused your Windows update problem.
Removing them both is the best idea, then run the windowsUpdate troubleshooter.
Try updating again.

As for downloading W10 onto USB, you might as well throw them away,
the free "in the future upgrade" will only work if you had >> installed and activated W10 << before the 29 July.

thanks. I run each program once from the download folder. Revo uninstaller can not find them.

It seems to me there programs are not run upon booting Win7, so deleting them in the download folder might not change the WIN7 update behavior.
I can find nothing in the folders Program64 and Program86.
Should I run ___YYY__WIN10 DisEnAble Selector___GWX_control_panel.exe again and chose appropriate?

So far understood, but I do want the Win7 updates.
I shy away from Registry Editor, did not touch it for years, last time may be XP or 98.

I've also used the two blockers and did not see any conflict.
Never Win 10 remove the KB that was in charge to the upgrade. But Windows Important update use to reinstall the crap.
GWX control panel not only blocks Win 10 Upgrade and uninstall and or remove the KB but and also disable Recommended Updates on Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Windows Update\Change settings.
Those 76 updates for WIN7 are Recommended Updates. As long as Important Updates is set to Auto, don't worry with the Recommended Updates. They are the kind of "DLST for Argentina" or alike. I've have choose d one by one after reading the More information and Support information on the right panel. Most was just useless and I've right click and hided the update so it will not show anymore.
If you run GWX control panel, it has the options to undo the register changes and set Recommended updates to on.

Yes I run both of them and get all the non w10 updates like olden days. I am undecided when/if I should disable them.
