A friend was having trouble with Foxfire browser. He thought he changed only that program to Windows XP SP2 compatibility. But, when he tried to reinstall his printer, he got a pop up saying his Windows 7 64 bit drivers were not compatible with Windows XP. It appears that the whole computer is running in XP mode. How can that be reversed?

Is he sure that it said that his Windows 7 64 bit drivers were not compatible with XP? Could it have said that they are only compatible with XP?

Compatibility Mode is specific to the .exe file it is applied to in file Properties.

Enable Automatically get recommended drivers and updates for your hardware (Step 3)
and run all rounds of Important and Optional Windows Updates with the printer and all other devices powered up. It should deliver a printer driver as well as other needed drivers and patches critical to Win7 performance and security.

If its a scanner too then after installing the driver WIn7 wants try the Windows Scan utility on the Printers and Devices rightclick context menu. This is sufficient for many, avoiding the printer's bloatware package. If not install the printer software, checking that the .exe setup file is not set to Compatibility Mode. Turn off all of its spy- and crapware after install in msconfig>Startup and >Services. On HP's you'll need the Solutions Center starting with Windows to scan from printer top.
