I have software which I love but can no longer use. It works perfectly on XP because it was designed for XP. I have tried installing it with all compat. options on a Win7 and a Win10 but nothing will work. My question:
I have an old laptop which is not connected to the internet (so no security issues) which right now has Win7 installed. Is there a way I can have WinXP S2 or 3 installed for me to use on only this one particular software. If this is possible, how do I go about it? Thanks for your patience with this old geezer.

The easiest way to do this, short of wiping the drive and installing XP, is to install "virtual machine" software (e.g. Oracle Virtual Box, VMWare Player) in Windows 7 or Windows 10, and then set up an XP virtual machine. Once you have done this, you will have an XP session running inside of Windows 7 or 10; and you can install your XP software in the XP session. You will need a copy of XP to install in the virtual machine.

If you had Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise, or Ultimate (not Home), you could install Microsoft XP Mode, a free virtual machine program from Microsoft. Best of all, XP Mode comes with a free copy of XP.

In Windows 10 Professional, Enterprise, and Education (not Home), there is something called "Hyper-V", which is virtual machine software built in to Windows 10. Hyper-V does not come with a free copy of XP; you'll need to provide that yourself.

I use Samba to share my data drive with the other computers at my house and with my guest session in VMWare Workstation Player.
Have used an offline spare PC for years for XP, was a clean install and works fine. Not sure whether the MS moneymaker would now accept validation of XP installs?
