I have just seen the last performance in London.

I know most of you will have been trying to get tickets for when it comes to your part of the world.

Let me know what you think.

For me, it is the perfect example of what is wrong with Theatre today.

What is it that makes it the perfect example of what's wrong with the theater today?

Good - there is at least one person with an interest in culture - that's a relief.

When you see it you will know what I mean.

The good bits:

1. Dialogue is delivered in a way that even those who struggle with Shakespeare will easily follow.

2. It has immense pace and energy.

3. The set pieces are very slick and well rehearsed.

The bad:

There is no emotional involvement of the audience.

I asked several audience members during the interval.

What did they feel about Richard?

They felt nothing -no fear, no loathing, no love no hate, no empathy - nothing. They were just watching.

What did they feel about the other characters - some were in obvious danger. Did they worry for them ?

No - they felt nothing at all.

I can see why they like it - it is fun in a way.

It is driven along by the pace and slickness, seeing a big star name is always a thrill for the average punter. It is like a videogame.

That is not what theatre is about - it should move the audience.
