Ricoh Device Driver Error

I am at work posting this right now. Therefore, I do not have "all" of the proper information to provide with (but will add to it later this afternoon). Anyway, my Toshiba Laptop started running slowly a few months ago, as it would make the noises like when you insert/remove a device from the USB ports. There would never be anything in the ports. As time continued, the problem gradually got worse to the point I couldn't use without the screen freezing every few seconds. I noticed whenever the computer would make the noises that the screen would freeze during those times. Now, I cannot even connect to the internet on that specific laptop. The internet connection is fine, as I can still connect via other devices. I have tried several system restores, and the problem still appears after each restore. I have done a lot of research online and can't seem to find a fix to the problem. I did detect an error with the Ricoh Driver Device. It seems to be the problem from my understanding. I have uninstalled and disabled/enabled the device, and everytime I have uninstalled, it automatically reinstalls. Does this sound like it could be the problem? Is there a way to fix the problem? I will post the error details later. I cannot even troubleshoot any errors on the computer.

Hello megkunz Welcome to the forum
If the Ricoh device is USB have a look at this ;

General USB problems
After a USB device is installed and then removed Windows hides the driver this first part makes all hidden drivers visible.
Remove all USB devices
Click on start orb, Type Advanced System settings in the search box and click to go there.
Click on Advanced tab, Click on Enviroment Variables.
Under the window System variables click on New.
Type " devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices" (without the ") as the variable name and type 1 as the value.
Click ok 3 times to close the windows
Click on start orb, Type Device Manager in the search box and click to go there.
Click on View, Click on Show hidden devices.
Now you can uninstall all old and unknown USB devices. I think it best if you unistall all USB devices

The infcache.1 file is used to store information about USB drivers, the information in this file may have become corrupted or may cause windows to load the wrong driver or cause a driver not found message to be generated.
Deleting this file will force windows to generate a new infcache.1 file
Right click on the start orb and select Windows Explorer,
Select Computer in the address bar and search for infcache.1
Right click on the file infcache.1 (if you have more instances of Windows installed only do this for infcache.1 C:\Windows\System32\Driver Store)
Click on properties, Click on security tab, Click on Edit, Click on Add
Type Administrators In the window with the blinking cursor, Click OK
Place a tick in the box under allow to the right of Full Control, Click Apply, Yes and OK
Delete the infcache.1 file
Connect a USB device, but not the one you were having trouble with to make a new infcache .1
New Start the PC and try your device again.

Thank you, I will try this to see if it works! One thing that is really irritating is the device manager. It freezes everytime I get into in. Could the bad driver be causing this and other freeze problems on the computer?

Will the new infcache create an updated installation for the USB device drivers?

The infcache is like a list of USB devices that you have on your PC. So it will be empty and all USB devices will install again like after a fresh Windows install.

Yes that could be possible, lets wait and see what happens after you have carried out the above and go from there

So they should reinstall after I restart the computer? Thank you so much for all the advice...I can't wait to get home to try it out.

Ok I did all. The ricoh memory card driver device reinstalled before I could even restart the computer. I connected my iPhone to the computer to create a new infcache.1. I restarted the computer, and it reinstalled the driver devices but failed to install the TOSHIBA MK5055GSX. The computer is still running very slow and freezes. I don't think this worked, although it was worth the try. Do you have any other suggestions or advice? Thanks!

Ok something is not right here. Confirm that the Ricoh device is USB?
Secondly if you remove all USB devices before starting what I wrote and only connect one device that you know works, before restarting. The PC cannot automatically install the Ricoh drivers!! this will only happen when the device is plugged in again.
If you do not plug the Ricoh device in we can then see if it is causing the problem or not.

Ricoh device driver is a driver that is automatically installed with toshiba computers. It works with all of the usb ports. There is a fix to the problem for Sony Vaio, for the same problem I have with the driver, but unfortunately, it is not compatible with toshiba computers. Toshiba obviously needs to find a fix for this error. I don't think there is anything I can do because everytime I disable or uninstall the product, it reinstalls itself to the computer.

Yes now I understand this device is built in :(
If you can go back far enough a system restore may help; http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/700-system-restore.ht
If you have a windows dvd a repair install; http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html
Or resetting your laptop don't forget to back up your personal data first
