Right click and drop downs freezing in Libraries/Folders

This started a couple of weeks ago and it's driving me nuts. If I click the library folder on the taskbar on my desktop, The libraries window opens fine, then if I click on documents or pictures, etc, that opens fine/quickly. BUT once the folder is open, if I right click on any of the pictures to get the menu for opening/sending the pic somewhere, etc, the little blue delay circle pops up for up to a minute. If I try to cancel it, it shuts the whole library page down, if I wait for a minute or two the menu will finally pop up and allow me to make a selection. The same thing happens over on the left side if I try to click the little arrows for the drop downs under the main folder headings, it takes forever and if I try to cancel it shuts it down. Same thing happens when I try to search for documents. Any ideas?

This could be a hardware issue. Open Event viewer by typing Event viewer or enevtvwr.exe in the search box. Expand the Windows logs and Applications logs too. Kindly look for any critical events and note down the Event IDs and kindly get back with the information.

I would run "scf /scannow" from an elevated command prompt in case there are any corrupted system files causing this delay.

Have you recently installed any programs on your machine? If so, what are they?

I haven't installed anything in months but I also just realized that my Norton Anti-Virus isn't updating the virus info and hasn't since 2/23 adn when I try to get it to update it tries and then cancels itself. I have no idea if this is related or not.
