I Couldn't Find A Tutorial For This

I want to a .php to this menu, I've tried several things that have failed, oh and I'm using Windows 7 RC.

Thanks, that works for .bat and I tried it on .html it worked. But for some reason it won't work with .php. Ideas?

It's ok, but as a web developer this is extremely inconvenient.

Did you create the .php key, or did you try using the existing .php3 key?

.php was there, I'll try it on .php3.

Do you have a default application for php files?

Yeah, Notepad ++.

I think the problem is that .php isn't "known" to windows, so it won't display a php file in the context menu. There must be another registry key somewhere that is required to "teach" windows about php, but I haven't found it yet. Think about it - there has to be another key that says "PHP Document", otherwise how would Windows be able to add it to a context menu?

Got it! It took a bit of figuring, but here's what you need to do:

1. Right click on HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT and select New->Key. Call it php3file.
2. In your newly created key, double click on (Default) and enter PHP File.
3. Right click and select New-> Expandable String Value. Enter @="PHP File"
4. Go to the .php3 key.
5. Double click on (Default) and enter php3file.

You'll also have to create the ShellNew key and the NullFile string value as outlined in the other tutorial. Make the changes, then log off and log on. You should now have a PHP context menu entry.

This is for the php3 key - you can make a php key and do the same sort of thing.

Yeah it did, for .php3 and .php.

I don't mind. All I did was search the registry for some phrases and compare existing keys until I figured out what needed to be done. I think it's great that you're doing a tutorial - it will hopefully help others.

I think I'll drop Brink a message and see if he'll add this to his tutorial as well.
