So guys, im confused right now as ive seen a loads apon loads of custom pc build sites searching for my new next computer, for gaming of course, i have a £420 pound limit and want to build the best machine or find the best machine for that price as long as it would do for near enough medium/high end gaming?, ive been on a pcspecialist.co.uk
amazon.co.uk
vibox.co.uk
overclockers.co.uk

Is there any other sites im missing?, honestly i can't thank you enough if you have spare time and helping me on either of them sites as i know quite alot of, or assist me in to building a new gaming rig, i aint sure if i want intel or amd, nvida or ati, its all too confusing for me, so what im asking is if any of you's guys come up with a custom build for me on either of them sites that would do good for gaming within the £420 budget?

THANK YOU!

I'd be looking at ATI for a budget gaming PC. You're not going to get much for 450 Lbs.

ATI isn't as good as Intel or Invidia on the upper end, but you get more for less money with them in general. A comparable product for less cash. With Intel and Invidia you get higher quality, but you pay more for it.

Honestly, I'm not so sure you're going to be able to build a 'gaming rig' for so little. Not anything decent anyway. You'd need at least 1000 lbs to even scratch the surface of a true 'gaming rig' setup.

You can get something that will run some older games for that much, but you can pretty much forget about Skyrim or Farcry 3 on something like that. You'd be better off buying a game console with that money considering your budget constraints really.

For 450 you might be able to run Morrowind, Descent, Torchlight, or Doom or something.

My advice is buy a console or save for a better rig. You'll need at least 1,500 for anything moderately decent if you're looking for a pure gaming PC. You might be able to get something that can run recent releases on low quality settings for around 1,000.

At the end of the day it depends on what you want to play. If you're just doing the Sims 2, Solitaire, or Morrowind you should be all right with a cheap rig. If you're looking to play Skyrim, Farcry 3, WoW, Sleeping Dogs, or Aliens: Colonial Marines, you're gonna need quite a bit more.

Edit: Saw your 2nd post. You're gonna need more than 450 to run Minecraft, Wow, or Planetside 2 on a PC. Sorry. Minecraft takes more PC than you might think, it's deceptively simple looking. WoW and Planetside 2 -might- run, but they'll look like complete crap and probably have a terrible framerate.

Well, I believe I've been out of the loop a little too long. Although, I'm not worried because there are people on here who are in the know.

I can help with selecting the power supply. I love those things. :)

What ive got currently in my rig now is pretty poop as i payed £250 for it and i can pretty much play wow and hitman absolution in medium to high graphics and it runs smoothly, i know its possible to build one for them kind of games especially the likes of arma 2 and minecraft i can run fine i just notice the old jitta now and then, i pretty much sold the xbox, and a few bits and managed to come up with say £450, all i want to do is to be able to play games in medium to high settings with no stutter etc ( arma 2, Minecraft, Wow, pretty much mods of games and some free to play ones,

Well, WoW maybe. It's sort of like Torchlight in that it was designed to run on lower end machines well. You do lose a lot bringing those settings down, but it'll run decent and won't look too bad.

Minecraft takes more PC than you might think, especially modded. You're gonna have a real short draw distance and a lot of pop in and stutter on a 450 lbs machine. You'll be able to run the vanilla game okay on medium/high I suppose, but you're gonna have to cut those settings back if you mod it much. It's deceptively simple looking. There's a lot going on behind those blocky graphics.

I'm skeptical that you can run Hitman Absolution on a rig that cheap so well. Blood Money maybe, but Absolution? It's big on particle effects and crowd A.I. I don't really see it running all that well on a budget machine.

It depends on what you want to play. A rig like that might be fine, and might run games on lower settings, but that's not really a 'Gaming Rig'. I suppose you might call it a 'PC for games' as that would be it's primary function from the sound of it.

Still, someone says 'Gaming Rig' and most people think 'Optimized for Games' and you're not going to get that out of 450 lbs.

You might get something that will run most games at a mediocre level.

How much PC you really need depends on what you want to play and how much you're willing to give up graphically for a decent framerate.

At a certain point, a lot of people would be better off with a console. 450 is in that gray area between the two really. Since you're looking to run a few PC exclusives, you're probably better off with a PC, but I wouldn't call it a 'Gaming Rig' either.

Yes. If you can afford it, you should go with Intel and Nvidia. AMD is almost as good and cheaper though.

I just thought of something: you can also go to the site below to ask for help building a new computer. Although, you will have to be very clear about your desires and your needs because many people assume that because you came to Overclock.net, you want to overclock too. You also need to be very clear about your budget because some people get a little too excited and start recommending parts that you can't afford. lol They're an enthusiastic bunch, though and they really know what they're talking about.

cheers for your reply, much appreciated, sorry if i didn't sound or say it in the right sense to read it properly, but i rewrote it so its kinda easier to understand i guess?

£450 is my budget, just seeing whats out there, wont need a a screen,

My current rig now is:
Mobo: AsRock G41M-VS3
Ram: 6gb Crucial 1333mhz
Gpu: HD 6570
Cpu: Intel Pentium Duel Core E5700

What i dont know is if i should buy a new motherboard/processor/gpu and stick it in my current set up or just go out and buy a decent one?, anybody recommend me one? or build me something in which i could look at and maybe possibly order please?..I only ever play games like Arma 2, World Of Warcraft, Minecraft, ASKING for planet side 2 i guess i wont get i don't think, but if anybody could help me out it would be great!

You'd need new memory too. So, it would be motherboard, CPU, and video card.

Yes, this would be a vast improvement over what you have now. High settings mostly, medium on something really graphics intensive like Farcry 3 or a Modded Skyrim. Your question makes more sense now too.

In your initial posts, it sounded like you were planning on building an entire machine or getting a pre-built rig on 450 lbs. Not upgrading a few parts on what you already had. That would have been crazy.

That's how I started building, now I wouldn't keep a pre-built if it was given to me. I'd just sell it or rip it apart for parts and build what I wanted.

I'd suggest that in the near future you upgrade the Ram. The Mobo and Processor both support 1866 Frequency Ram. [Though, the processor can go up to 2400, the Mobo is limited to 2133 [OCed] or 1866 standard]. What you're getting only has 1600. Having better Ram speed will improve the performance of games and let you push those settings up even higher. There isn't much difference between dual and single channel memory, so go with whatever works best for your budget. Dual Channel has a .5%- to 1.5% improvement over single channel Ram, so don't sweat that.

I'd also recommend getting a nice cooling unit. The stock cooling unit on that board is crap. It won't break your PC or anything, but you'll be needing more or you'll be having to limit your playtime to keep it from overheating. Noctua makes the best air coolers on the market right now in my opinion. I've got a D14, but it's pretty big. If you've got a case big enough, I'd go with that. Though, with after market cooling, it's important to remember to make sure that your Ram and Mobo are compatible

On a six core like that, you should be able to OC to 3.9-4.0 easily with a good cooler. The guys at OC.com can help with that too. Even if you're not interested in OCing you should still upgrade the cooling. It can greatly extend the life of your CPU and your PC in general.

I always go to ebuyer when i buy components for my PC and they're always at competitive prices.

The specs below are from a pre built maching which comes in at a little over £460 but there are others on the website for less money with decent spec. Ebuyer Gaming PCs
